Hey… thanks, Mom and Dad!
It’s boarding season and you’ve got all your sponsors lined up to outfit you with boots, bindings, goggles, the works, right? You don’t? You mean Burton and the boys haven’t dialed you in yet? Fear not, you are not alone. Ninety nine percent of us shredders are footing the bill ourselves, or are we?
The more I thought about it and the more I looked at it, I realized we ALL have sponsors! It’s our parents, or it was... or for some of you just getting started, it will be.
My name is Brandon Bennett, and I’ve been shredding as an avid snowboarder for over half of my 24 years on the third rock from the sun. My brother and I, Chad, grew up in the small town of Slinger, WI and lived just down the street from Little Switzerland, the local ski resort. Not even close to being a mountain, it was more like a big hill. But it had 14 runs and an area devoted to boarders that we affectionately called, “The Park,” where we competed and made the best of it. From there we went on to building homemade rails to grind in a friends’ backyard. When there wasn’t enough snow at the hill, everyone piled into our pickup trucks and went to parking lots, driveways or wherever and shoveled as much snow as we could into the trucks. Then we’d haul it to our backyard, build a jump or a mini half-pipe. Alright, it was more like an eighth of a pipe, but we had a blast.
But that didn’t cost us anything. It was the equipment! So for Christmas, St. Nicks day, birthdays and any other holiday we could come up with we asked our parents for snowboarding gear. And our parents always came through. Maybe it wasn’t the best stuff out there but it certainly got us down the hills.
Fast forward to my college years at Winona State University where two or three times a week I made the two-hour commute from Winona to Bloomington, MN at 5:30 in the morning, to coach the kids’ freestyle for the G-Team. I became the president of the snowboarding club at Winona and was also a coach for the Midwest Best Snowboarding team.
For many of you who have been to local or National events, you have heard the announcers introduce the competitors and any sponsor(s) they may be associated with. But honestly, not too many have sponsors, other than, “you-know-who.” While attending the Nationals in 2007 in Tahoe, one of the kickin’ announcers said a line that really connected with me. He bellowed into the mic, “And now coming down the slope, competitor number 147, Joe Somebody, from Kewaskum, Wisconsin, sponsored by, TEAM MOM AND DAD!”
Right then it struck me! Teammomndad.com. What better way for all of us to say thanks to the people who make it all possible out for us to cut it up on the slopes not only in our towns, but around the country and ultimately the world.
So my brother Chad and I started Teammomndad. We’ve got a slammin’ website with shirts, hats, sweatshirts and other cool stuff available. Want to buy something really special for your parents for Christmas? All right Christmas is already over but you could still buy them something! How about a cool Teammomndad logo’d sweatshirt, t-shirt, or polo shirt?
And when your parents continue to pay for your gear and competition entry fees you might want to make the effort to let everyone else know that they are the ones making it all possible. For that reason, we are also designing out-a-sight hooded sweatshirts with your TMND logo on the back for you to wear while doing what you love to do.
What better way to say thanks then wearing a Teammomndad sweatshirt and cap? How about plastering our super bad Teammomndad stickers on your helmets and boards? We all know who the real sponsors are, and now everyone else will too.
Every one of us would love to get sponsored. But the reality is, unless you are the next Shawn White or Tony Hawk… or you know someone who knows someone who can get you sponsored; it’s a hard hustle. Since sponsorships are few and far between, Teammomndad will continue to step up and pay for our competition entry fees and gear. Let’s not forget them.

All new Team
Brandon Bennett here hoping you all had a great summer and are looking forward to a great winter of snowboarding. And you all have a reason to celebrate. After nearly two years, 100's of hours of work and countless starts and stops, the new company my brother and I started, Team MomNDad is up and running! That's right. Everyone knows we wouldn't be where we are without mom and dad. We would be hard pressed to participate in all that training, tournaments and fun weekends on the hills. So in appreciation, I've designed the all new Team MomNDad apparel lineup, just in time for the 2009 season.
